Acquiring battery voltage is very important for low-power devices, and the service life of a device can be judged with the aid of battery voltage. In designs that require high accuracy in analog acquisition, it is generally necessary to use a high-precision external ADC instead of directly using the ADC peripheral in the MCU.

The recommended 16-bit ADC, GX8684 (ADS8684 compatible), operates at a throughput of 500kSPS. The device provides integrated analog front-end circuitry for each input channel, with over-voltage protection of up to ±20V, and a low temperature drift from the 4.096V reference voltage on the chip. The TSSOP38 package is compatible with Texas Instruments‘ (TI) ADS8684.
